Scent Story

I never throw perfume away. Call me a hoarder, but I just never know when I'll want to take a trip down memory lane. Isn't it funny how smelling a certain scent can tale you back in time. Make you feel the way that you felt in a single point in time years ago. I don't know the name of the perfume pictured, but I can tell you every thing that happened the winter that I wore it daily. I was 17, a freshman in college, staying up late studying, studying with new friends in the school library, packing in the pounds eating the Fazzoli's pizza and breadsticks that was served in the college food court. was trying to find places to go in my first car....there was never anywhere to go in Tomball, TX, I got a financial aid check for $1200, and i thought I was in the money , I threw the 12- $100 bills in the air and laughed as I yelled, "I'm rich!" this small fortune ran out shortly after. My husband who was at that time my boyfriend sent this perfume to me in the mail from Virginia. He had recently dropped out of Gary Job corps in Tx, and moved to Virginia to work in construction with his brother. This scent makes me think of late nights on the phone with my boyfriend....this scent makes me think of becoming an adult...Well, this is the story of the pictured mystery scent. I enjoy wearing it every now and again, and spending the day reminiscing.

As I am typing this my 3 year old is sniffing me saying...'ooh mommy you smell good!"

Recycled Cardboard Box Playcastle

There really is no need for a tutorial here. Cardboard box, paint, imagination...............

We got a new dishwasher last week. I was originally going to use the box as a stage prop for a play(stove). After staring at it for a couple of days I thought, "My 3 year old can totally fit inside of this box." I have to admit that this looks a whole lot better than some of the other cardboard box playhouses. It is also sturdier, and cheaper than the playhouses that can be purchased at Wal-mart and Target. I recycled the HECK out of this box & that's something to feel good about.

Now this project was time consuming, so it is more from someone who enjoys painting and crafting. If you are not enjoying the process of creating after a while you start to think.."What the heck am I doing? This is a cardboard box!" You could always go without painting or paint it a single color to save time. I am sure that the little ones will not mind!

Peppermint Coffee. OMG! Yum!

This is super simple, but major"ly" delicious! Yes, I went there. I made up a word because that's how yummy this is!...Wait majorly may be a word... Anyways. All I did was grind one candy cane in my coffee grinder, and mix it into my coffee. If you do not have a grinder, you can use a food processor, a 3-star Ninja kitchen system, or you can go totally old school and put your candy cane in a sandwich bag, wrap the sandwich bag in a washcloth, and beat it to a pulp with a rolling pin or hammer. I used my new Dunkin' Donuts whole bean coffee. I just switched to this coffee yesterday. Although, I have always loved a nice cup of Yuban brand coffee, I found myself becoming bored with it. All this week I sat and day dreamed about diner style coffee. Nothing fancy, I pictured myself at The Waffle House or Denny's just relaxing and sipping on a cup of black coffee. I figured Dunkin' donuts would be my best bet for home brewing, and it did not disappoint!Happy Brewing!

I love, love, love my Ninja Kitchen system!!! sort of.....

If you are looking for an awesome kitchen machine, you may want to check out the Ninja 1100. I originally bought it because the package claimed that it was a complete juicer. I had previously bought a juiceman juicer, but found it to be too loud, and too hard to clean. Let me start out by saying that THE NINJA IS NOT A JUICER!!!!! if anyone has figured out how to juice with this machine, please comment below... Exactly....Liars! This machine is so amazing that I was able to recover from the lies fairly quickly, and settled for green smoothies instead of juice. The blades are so sharp that my husband merely touched it and sliced his finger....sounds like a line from a Chuck Norris tale doesn't it? My smoothies have been(in the words of my 3 year old) Buh-licious! I used this machine for everything on thanksgiving morning! I used it as a food processor, a dough mixer, and a blender all in one morning...Although I did not use it as a juicer that morning.....hmmmmmm.... I must admit that the machine seems to overload and cut out when mixing thick doughs. When it overloads you have to unplug it and wait 15 min. before turning it back on. this happened 3 or 4 times while i was mixing my cooking dough. I did not mind that much because I was so busy doing other things on Thanksgiving morning, but I am sure it would be super annoying on any other day. I love the machine, but it does have its cons. As a multi-purpose kitchen machine i give it 5 stars out of 5! But because of the overloading and lies I give it a 3!

BIG or small?

Ok, I have been thinking about this for a while. To me it feels like when I go into a restaurant, I am looked at with pity. Could this be one of the reasons for this nation's constant overeating? If I order a cup of iced water at Mc Donald's , everyone is like, "aaaaaaaaaaah, she can't afford a soda...":(. Yes, they say this with their eyes. This morning I ordered a talle white chocolate mocha @ Starbucks, which is already packed with calories. I felt a little small next to all the grandes and whatever that big size is, but the talle size is more than enough for me! i was really bad this morning , so I drove to the do-nut shop to get some do-nuts, and a kolache..When I was asked if i wanted a small or large kolache..again the face of pity when I answered, "small." It's like we are programmed to prove that we have the money. Yeah look at me I can afford the large! I have money!! It not only bothers me because of that reason, but because it could be one the reasons that American people are also becoming Super-sized!... Next time you are ordering food, say to yourself...would the small size suffice? Don't let what the cashier or other customers think be a deciding factor of your health and finance decisions.....~Razzle Dazzle

How to make a tulle bed canopy!

I have changed the design of the canopy. Practice makes perfect! I will be making 3 custom canopies this week and will post pics next week. the new design is less bulky, more refined, and sturdier!

Of course a the phone camera does not do this precious princess haven any justice....Supplies:*At least 3 large rolls of tulle (100yds each)I usually wait for tulle and ribbon to go half off at Hobby Lobby (about every other week) * 5yd roll of ribbon of choice *1 ceiling hook *one hula hoop *hot glue gun *lighter

This is so simple! Measuring the tulle is the time consuming part! Measure each tulle strip about 7 ft. long. The rolls are already 6 in wide. Then you know what you do? You tie the tulle to the hula hoop one strip at a time leaving about 3 in at the top for fluff!

I left about an 8 inch opening on each side(North, South, East, and West) and wrapped and hot glued ribbon around. I will take a better pic of how I did this next week when I make the other 3 canopies. I totally guestimated ribbon lengths on thsi one. I cut about about 4, 2 ft. strips of ribbin and tied one to the middle of each of the 8 in. spaces I let them hang over the side like pictured, and then I tied the 4 ribbons to each other in the middle of the hoop to create the canopy. Then I tied a bow as seen atthe tope to cover the knot!

I then measures another strip of ribbon. You will need to measure the distnace from your ceiling hook to where you would like the canopy to hang. This measurement will vary as ceiling heights differ, and you may want your canopy to hang closer to the floor at the end. once you determine this ribbon length, tie this ribbon to the bow, make another bow at the very top and slide it into your ceiling hook! if you have any questions, let me know. i will be posting better stepby step pictures next week because i have a few of these to make for family and friends.

Duct Tape Thriller Jacket! 6 Days until Halloween!

UPDATE!!!! DEC 3, 2011: THIS IS ME IN MY FINISHED THRILLER JACKET! IT WAS AWESOME,BUT HOT! HALLOWEEN NIGHT WAS CHILLY, SO I WAS NOT MISERABLE IN IT! ON A CHILLY OCTOBER NIGHT..THERE WAS SWEAT....

This is what i have done so far with my Duct Tape Thriller Jacket. I ran out of tape toward s the end. this project is inexspensive and fast, so if you haven't got it made by Friday, don't freak! Materials: 2 old t-shirts, at least 2 rolls of red duct tape(may need more depending on your shirt size), 1 roll of black duct tape, scissors, and measuring tape if u wanna get all fancy. I made mine a 3/4 sleeve length jacket just to make it a little more girly, but you could use a long sleeved t-shirt as your base if you want your design to be a little truer to the original Thriller Jacket. Step 1: Choose 2 t-shirts. They should be about the same size.

Step 2: If you are going to make your sleeves 3/4 length, you will need to cut the sleevs off of one shirt and tape them to the first shirt. If you are going to make a long sleeve jacket, or keeping the sleeves short, skip this step.

Step 3: Cut your t-shirt straight down the middle in the fron to make your jacket opening.

Step 4: Begin applying tape. in my opinion, long vertical stripes look best.

Step 5: cut a v-shape out of your second t-shirt as seen above. Leeve the shirt collar attached to both the fron and back of the shirt. This will be the v-shape Thriller jacket cover. Cut down the frond of this shirt as well.

Step 6: Drape the v-shaoe shirt over your first shirt, and run out of red tape just when you are ready to attach the 2 shirts!

Step 7: Begin black trim.

Hair Flowers...

This is a simple way to store hair flowers. I began wearing hair flowers almost daily when I started wearing my hair curly. I knew I needed a way to store them if i wanted to keep up with them. I actually have tons of other flowers (they are not lost..I don't think). I made most of these and will show you how soon! The hair flower holder is basically some extra ribbon I had left over from another project. I used a push pin to attach it to the medicine cabinet (Pay no attention to the sticker residue..I just ripped a sticker off of the cabinet because I thought the sticker ruined my shot..to be honest I would rather have the sticker in the shot.)

Tutus!

These are the tutus that I have made so far. It all started with the Razzle Dazzle Halloween tutu that I made for my DD. The next thing I know Princess Dazzle was born! My favorites are the onsie tutus.

Pillocase Dress!

I have been wanting to make one of these for a while! I saw a little girl wearing a dress made similarly to the one here, and immediately called my mother to tell her about this incredibly simple looking dress. She said, "Why don't you just make it out of a pillow case?" I googled pillow case dress and voila! That is exactly what the little girl's dress was made out of! I will be posting a tutorial the next time I make one. Tip- Us e a wider ribbon..#What was I thinking? disaster! She had wardrobe malfunctions all day!
